There is obviously a need for capacity for ATL-RDU and DL is using an aircraft they think best fits the market. DL regularly uses widebodies to MCO which isn't that much further from ATL than RDU.
Ditto! Just flew a 763 from ATL to MCO last week. This type of aircraft is not uncommon for this route and other shorter ones.
