This will also mark your assigned room as OD (occupied dirty) and prevent it from being used for other guests.
Did you miss the part where the OP did that???? Read the thread. Geesh.

The hotel screwed up (took a chance they wouldn't get caught). Besides the fact that there's no way in hades they should be charging the OP, they better be figuring out how to explain to the corporate contact who negotiates rates for the chain why they fubar'd the OP & his company. If I was the person negotiating rates w/ Marriott, I would NOT be pleased about this little end-run.

PS - While you all know that I am a kind & gentle soul , I can say I'd be throwing a major hissy fit if I had paid for the room the night before & got the stoopid excuse upon arrival. And I'd be standing right in front of the check-in desk refusing to move (yes I would let others move around me to check in; not their fault) & staring at all of them straight in the eye until they figured out whoever checked out at oh-dawn-hundred (like I've done many a time in the UK to catch flights back to the US) was gone & get their room cleaned asap. Based on the OP's confirmed reservation status, if it was me I would not move, and I would continue to remind them every 10 minutes that I was there & could they please check w/ housekeeping to get a room cleaned asap. Of course, being a kind & gentle soul, by that time I would have had them bring up the GM, based on the OP's scenario.

PSS - While there are many times I have checked in at 7am, I rarely book a room the night before. I realize that it's the throw of the dice in that case - and I have absolutely no problem w/ that! But that is not what the OP did. He deliberately booked a room the night before so IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE WHEN HE CHECKED IN AT 7AM - I too would be doubly po'd if it wasn't - and I certainly would not accept the extra night charge.

I've had multiple Marriott agents say - oh if you want to confirm early check-in (when I ask them to note early arrival) you should reserve a room. Given that statement it would occur to me - and any sane person - that the room would indeed be available if I did so. I've taken the chance, but as you know being a kind & gentle soul, that if I had not, you all would be privvy to my displeasure about said situation all the way back to the US

Cheers.

Cheers.
