My Travle AGent has tried to change this flight but it's not available on the package. She suggested that when we land at Vancouver to go to a Air Canada checkin and ask if there's room if we can get put on an earlier flight. Has anyone ever done this?? The way it stands now, we won't get to my folks till about 10:30 at night (they live some distance away from Cgy Intl). Any suggestions?

I can buy yet another ticket for an earlier flight but would forfeit one included in pkg.

Actually, assuming you are on a round trip ticket departing from NZ and returning, if you miss that leg, they might cancel your return, so "forfeiting" it may not be a good idea.

I have on occasion been able to take an earlier flight, if there was availability. However, given the negative pricing model, i.e. inventing extra restrictions associated with lower fares (so as to increase the "value" of higher fares), the rules for your fare may not allow it, and they may stick to the rules.

But in any event, it never hurts to try. As nicely as you can.
