I don't mind checking luggage as I have never had a bag lost and like having the extras I may want. Plus I'm usually gone 10 days to 2 weeks. Shopping is part of the fun in travelling and everyone always expects me to bring them something back...which means about 15 friends, family and co-workers. I only pack one side of my suitcases (the handle side). I know I will not be over the weight limit and I have plenty of room for shopping. I also have a duffle the zips down to nothing in size but opens to about 21" that I always pack for "just in case".
