EQM cannot be spent and never go down, until Jan 1 when they reset to zero. You will still hve 10K EQM and still be eligible for silver at 25K EQM regardless of spending (or not) your redeemable miles.

Note you won't earn EQM or RDM for an award ticket, so that flight will not get you closer to silver.
