Anyone know why this is necessary? Can't imagine it's because of T5 since T5 activities shouldn't affect departure of CX flights if you are boarding in LHR?
BAA baggage handling procedures. They cannot get the bags from check-in to the plane in less than an hour. The opening of T5 has a direct effect on this, lots of staff are moving to T5. And T3 is being rebuilt (including a new baggage handling system, so some parts of the old system will be shut down progressively during 2008).
I guess CX decided that having a later "no bags" check-in time wasn't viable (too much confusion, argument and service dis-satisfaction).
