I´d say go for it if lounge access is important as others in the thread have said- that together with priority check-in are the only additional benefits I´ve enjoyed over the years with a gold card...use of BA lounge when flying non one world metal, F lounge food and drink better, club check-in desks (especially at some smaller airports where econ queues can be very long with only a few desks operational). And also priority attention when a flight is cancelled. I always aim to keep gold on BA first then spread my points elsewhere. I´ve no burning desire to get to GGL as the only benefit I see there is access to those highly sort after reward flights (e.g Barbados, S.Africa at Xmas) and I don´t need those.
