You must call AS. The reservation is technically with AS. If there is a problem, they will liaise with the airline operating the metal.

Change fee after you ticket one leg unless you're MVPG, in which case it is waived. I've been changing my next trip on British and this has saved me 100's of dollars. (Don't ask - BA switched equipment to eliminate the F cabin so I switched flights to let my wife have her first tatl F experience, then I removed a London layover to eliminate danger emanating from the possible BALPA strike...All the while, making the long-suffering yet delightful partner desk reps jobs difficult. Reiterating and expanding on what someone (Jackal, I believe) said, the AS partner desk almost makes the Mileage Plan worth it on their own. I have had them set down the phone to call the liaison for different airlines to get seats released, etc. They are amazing and the unsung heroes of AS.
