Booked an awared trip [DEN-DPS] for August. When the ticket was issued, they used my full name so it would be what is on my passport. However because my MP account is different (i.e. Bob instead of Robert), my MP account does not recognize the award booking. When I went through .bomb to change it, they provided an email to send the request. Here is the response I received.

Out of concern for the security of your account, I cannot process a name-change request sent by e-mail or fax. To change the name on your Mileage Plus account, a written request accompanied by supporting legal documentation (such as a copy of a marriage certificate, divorce decree, passport, birth certificate, or court order) is required. Please be sure to include the following information in your written request:
- Mileage Plus account number
- former name
- current name
- current address (as listed on your Mileage Plus account)
- telephone number
- signature
- the legal documentation

I can see this being needed when you get married but to make the first name go from say Mike to Michael seems excessive. Any thoughts?
I recently decided to change my MP account to reflect my full name (as opposed to my middle name) to avoid any confusion at the airport. They requested the same requirements as listed above. I believe that I faxed it to them, but at the time I was a 1K member. It took 2 weeks from the time I faxed it in, to the time it changed on my MP profile. Fairly painless. Certainly less pain to send in the name change than being placed in economy when your PE status will get you E+ for a trip to Bali!
