A friend of mine stayed at the Pioneer Inn a couple of years ago and said it was nice, in a rustic sort of way.
He liked the central location.

Another economical alternative in Hawaii might be a Choice Hotel.
I thought someone posted something about them taking over the Outrigger properties.
Not sure what islands they are on or if this turnover actually occurred.
