An unexpired Mexican passport should be sufficient. Does the old one have evidence of valid entry to the US? Can you keep it? If so, I'd say she's good.

Otherwise just have her say she has no ID and have her hand you her carry on out of sight from any TSA people (so you don't risk SSSS also).
