Some interesting thoughts being shared here. I'm in consultancy, but not in hi-tech. I will work hard to produce the work my clients expect on time and to a high standard, but I will do that wherever possible by working within my 9-5.30 hours. For weekends and evenings I'd work either because it was something interesting enough I'd want to do it, or because there was a really pressing deadline - but I will usually try to plan my work to avoid that! If I'm told to work on weekends or evenings, I'd be not too happy...
