The only problem with using this precedent (of what had happened historically) is that there are fewer airlines left to pick up the miles if a competitor fails. Failure (Chapter 7, not 11) of UA and US would leave only 4 majors. When the others failed, there were 6 or more. I would bet the new reality is that status will be matched but not miles. if miles are matched, I'd bet the amount will depend on one's status.
