The following is the language quoted by IHG in every Senior Discount rate I book. This comes from the pop-up when you click on any room description within the Senior Discount section of available rates:
"Senior Discount rate is available for guests 62 years and older or with valid membership ID of a retired person organization. Proof of eligibility required at check in."
I have never had any problems checking in with this rate. If asked, I could show the AARP membership card. However, with a dozen stays at this rate since SENIOR DISCOUNT replaced AARP rate, I never have been asked to show the membership card.
I like the flexibility of being able to change or cancel the reservation when plans change while generally getting a rate comparable to Advance Purchase.
