aa.com not giving best fare

Perhaps some of the old-timers can help with this:

Put an SFO-EWR ticket on hold tonight. On the outbound according to EF availability was N3 O1 but aa.com would only show N class, which was $30 more for the same flights. I got N on the return as expected.

When I called the EXP desk the agent quoted me the lower fare and then at my request changed my held fare basis.

Have people seen such behavior from aa.com before? Is it possibly because I am only holding the fare in which case it might have repriced when I purchased it?
