I purchased a 21 screen for a trade show one time, then took it back to the office by repackaging it in it's original box and checking it. I came out fine. Since it was the end of the show I didn't care if it got damaged. If I was heading somewhere where I would need it, I wouldn't risk checking it. UPS or carry-on might be better options if your tolerance for risk is lower.
