I've had a couple of life threatening experiences.
First was on a flight JFK-LHR where the pilot didn't even attempt to deny that we're about to endeavor on a very turbulent flight, he just said the following on the PA. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome aboard this BA flight to London Heathrow, unfortunately due to the unstable weather we shall encounter on route there will be no meal service tonight. Please make sure you are strapped in tight and if you are in need of the toilets please press your attendant call button where one of the FA's will assist you to the nearest WC. We appreciate your understanding." Needless to say....the 8 hour flight was basically a glorified rollacoster!!!.
Second was on a ...well....what was meant to be a 50 minute flight from LAS-LAX which ended up turning into a 4h 50min flight from hell. To cut a long story short, a massive weather system shut down LAX for 2 hours which we basically had to circle in, think we were on a 737 or A318 can't quite remember, but the plane was getting thrown all over the place (to the extent when you get the feeling the plane is flying backwards). In anycase as it was a United/TED flight so i decided to listen into 'channel 9' which is the the cockpit ATC and needless to say @ 4h 20m they effectively said they had 20mins worth of fuel left!!.
I have to say the pilots put the plane very skillfully as we were crabbing in at such an angle i could see the runway out of the window!
