I was able to upgrade Y->J from Dubai to HKG for USD 500.
Thought that was a really good deal.

On the subsequent HKG-LAX they refused to even look up the fare difference (at the gate) ... but I ended up having a row of 4 seats in Y for myself, also not a bad deal ;-)
