Baggage allowance purposes. In the past, I have been able to claim North American baggage allowances on seperate 'segments' even though they didn't connect to North America as long as they were on the same ticket. Getting into BKK will likely be on an award ticket which means I won't be able to combine my international allowance there.

Also, I have sometimes seems fuel surcharges reduced when I combine multiple trips into one ticket. (Example was YYZ-LHR-YYZ & JFK-MIA-JFK. I saved over $300 vs buying them as two seperate trips.)

And, on a somewhat related note, I meant PEN not USM.
