This all needs to be reported!
What a shame to hear that this property is aging poorly and before its time. I was only there once and it was shortly after the property had reflagged to Westin (after launching as Our Lucaya) -- the GM was the highly esteemed and long-time Starwood manager, Harris Chan. Under his reign, everything we saw at both the Sheraton or the Westin was 100% buttoned up and nearly perfect. You could easily tell that there was extensive training behind the scenes and every employee we encountered was incredibly gracious, helpful, and professional.
Other posters are absolutely correct in suggesting that the OP open a file with Starwood about what he experienced recently. Doors that won't lock or that are simply insecure shouldn't be an issue at ANY HOTEL, never mind a Westin. These are what I consider to be highly unacceptable issues.
Drugs in the room are not ideal for starting off one's vacation and it makes one doubly concerned that Housekeeping allowed the bag to remain in the safe after the checkout of the previous guest -- isn't Housekeeping always to ensure that the safe is emptied and open after each checkout?!? (I suppose there is the chance that someone put the bag in the safe following the housekeeper's visit....)
Regardless, this is all mind-bending to me and I'd be darn mad to put up with this sort of stuff on vacation. This property is clearly not operating up to security standards on several fronts! Please, for the sake of other guests, take the time to file your specifics with Starwood -- they NEED to hear from you on this.
