I am might have to take a flight on Wednesday out of ewr, but there is something that will only be confirmed about a half hour (if not less) before flight time that would make it that I dont need to take the flight.

If I purchase a Y ticket thu co.com, can I check in, go to the gate, and then if I find out that I dont need to fly can I cancel with out any fees? If yes, do I need to speak to an agent at the counter or can it be done online/on the phone? Also do I need to do it before they close the plane door?
