Denied UA IFL at SFO when in SQ F

I am in the Silver Kris lounge typing this waiting for SQ 15 SFO-ICN in F. I wanted to visit the IFL because of the better showers, closer to the gate, and to see the "nicest" lounge in the UA system in the states. However, I was denied on the basis that SQ doesn't pay UA to let their flyers use the lounge. Isn't this a Star benefit though that I should receive whether or not SQ pays UA (as in I know each lounge operator gets paid for other airline pax but that's not my fault, its the airline's). Also, UA's website clearly states that I should have access to other star partners F lounges. What gives?

Too bad I wasn't witty enough at the time to offer to pay for entrance myself- I would have liked to see their response.

Thanks!
