Best Hilton property for a romantic vacation?
With the switch to no black-outs, my wife and I plan to start accumulating more HH points via Amex and Visa charges and hotel stays. I'd really welcome any suggestions for the most romantic Hilton properties for one to two week vacations using points (which I guess roughly translates into getting and using one or two GLON specials).
If it helps, for our honeymoon (and before I became aware of the Starwood program's features) we went what was the great Hilton property on St. Lucia--the one that exclusively had small, private villas up a hillside in an incredibly scenic spot, and that is no longer a Hilton. That's close to our ideal idea of a great place.
More generally, we love beaches, hiking, hanging out, beautiful settings and sunsets, a relatively quiet scene (we're early 50's and it would just be the two of us, no kids) and the chance to explore the surrounding area by foot or car. If there are nearby spots for a bite or drink that are walking distance from the hotel, that's great too. Our bias for romantic vacations leans toward beach vacations. But we're definitely open to other suggestions. (I posted a similar query at the Starwood site a while back and based on the feedback there we ended up at the Arabella Western Cape in South Africa, not a beach hotel but the nicest place we've ever stayed at.)
I've only checked out the Hilton site and FT posts a bit--though I did do a "romantic" search and came up with just a post re romantic weekends in Europe. So far, the Maldives property sounds good, though that's pretty much the other side of the world from where we live--Oakland, California.
Thanks for any advice and suggestions anyone cares to offer.
