Focus on the pre-security options (of which there are few). The chances of the TSA allowing you through just to eat are very slim.

From Analise's link, the options seem to be a Subway in T7, the following in T4:
  • Au Bon Pain
  • Bar Avion
  • Café Ritazza
  • Cucina Sandwiches and Salads
  • KFC Express
  • McDonald's
  • Sam Adam's Celebrates NY
  • Sbarro's Wok & Roll

and the following in T1:
  • Euro Cafe (w / Krispy Kreme Kiosk)
  • Greenwich Village Bistro
  • McDonald's
  • Panini Express
  • Soup & Kimbob
  • Wok & Roll

Really very few options.

If you can jedi mind trick your way past security, I'd aim for the JetBlue terminal (T6); they have the best selection.
