Otago is great

The terrain is amazing - hills and water views, Larnach Castle is amazing, the city is compact and different. Yes Cadbury would interest a child and the Tairei George Train is good.

Fiordland is awesome Milford Sound BUT the big secret is Doubtful Sound.

Distances in NZ are not great - BUT it does take ages to move around, narrow roads that wind around hills and cliffs, often its difficult to pass slower cars, so allow plenty of time to move around.

What I do in NSW on a freeway eg: SYD CBR - 3 hours with a coffee break, would take 6 - 7 hours in NZ.
