The area around Anaheim Convention Center seems to be safe. It is bounded on the North by the origianal Anaheim Arena and then Disneyland is across the street. There are many hotels built cheek-by-jowl to the east with a big parking lot on the western side.

Anaheim has a decent transit service aimed at the Conv. Center and Disneyland called Anaheim Resort Transit:

It can get you to the other hotels is the larger area and to MousePark's main entrance (on its eastern side) and the Amtrak/Metrolink Station and Crystal Cathedral and a large mall, etc.

Well, now that you are flying into ONT, why not stop off in Claremont, CA for a cup of coffee. It was built up by college professors from New England and there is only one other town with that name in the USA, and guess what state it is in! Just west of ONT on I-10 (or "the 10" in local parlance) but before the interchange with "the 57"; use Indian Hill Blvd. Exit and go north until you cross the tracks, then take a right.
For future reference, there is a frequent coach/bus (Gray Line's Disneyland Express) service from both LAX and John Wayne (SNA) to Anaheim CC/Disneyland. Long Beach (LGB) is next closest to Anaheim after SNA and has non-stop jetBlue service to Boston (but not MHT).
ONT is about a 45 minute drive to Anaheim. I would take I-10 to CA-57 and then take Katella westbound to Anaheim CC.
