I was checking out some flights on the AC website, and saw a link for their
Spring Getaway Pass.
The idea is that you can buy a one month (all of April) or two month (all of April and May) pass for 1-2 people for unlimited travel between the US and Canada. The map is broken down into two zones, eastern and western (I'll list the applicable cities for each below). The prices for each for one month are:
1 person eastern $651
1 person western $598
1 person both $866
2 people eastern $1166
2 people western $1070
2 people both $1553
For two months, just double those numbers. However, if you buy a 2 month pass, you can also add on a flight to LHR, CDG, or PVG for only $168 for 1 person or $300 for two people. That flight must be taken in April. Travel is only good on flights with K availability, and only on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
For AC Aeroplan members the mileage earning is capped at 3000 miles/month. However, I don't see any reason why someone crediting to UA couldn't save up all of their boarding passes, and submit them to MP for credit. On intra-Canada flights, K class earns just 50%, but on worldwide flights it earns 100%.
Particularly if you have a MR partner, this could be a chance to rack up a good number of miles for not too much money. As a theoretical high point, for example, MIA-YYZ is 2466 miles RT. If you did that every Tuesday, Sat, and Sun in a month (caveat: I don't even know if that's possible with AC's schedule), that would earn you nearly 30,000 EQMs (at a price of pain, I know!). MIA-YYZ-PVG is 16,680 miles RT.
So, what do you all think? Am I missing something here?
