I noticed a couple of times that seats H, J, K on all rows 6 - 9 showed up as open/available some 24 -48 hrs. before the flight. This seems to be a reasonable indicator that indeed the new config is scheduled to operate that day.

On dates further out those seats show occupied, however often the flight is very open in business class, e.g. C9 D9 Z9. In these instances UA is not certain which config will fly and therefore those seats are still blocked out.
