I believe it comes from E. I'm not certain that you can check for it - it might be that only AA can see that.

What I've always found, if the same day/confirmed standby (or whatever the "official" name is) is available, you'd likely be able to get on the flight doing a free standby anyway. The only benefit for me, personally, is the peace of mind, or the ability to be confirmed so that I can then upgrade. Also, this might be of benefit to those passengers that don't have status and might not make the free standby otherwise.

Also to note: The information from Few Miles should be viewed, IMO, in historical context. It is extremely out of date. My recommendation is to instead use the resources of the AA Wiki (links provided by the stickies at top of the forum page)
