It IS an issue if you can't explain to the agent where are you going to stay during your trip. You are welcome to go with me in US immigration and see what happens when I say "I don't know where I am staying".
I had no clue that my friend didn't know her own boyfriend's address...believe me when traveling on my own I always have all my documents in order. My friends have traveled all around Europe so I didn't realize they would forget such an important piece. I was more surprised that they got through with no issue.
