The extra pages in my passport give immigration officers everywhere a pain, evidently. Many ask me why I travel so much. The answer changes based on my mood - "work, since I have business in two countries" or "family on two continents" but it's only when I go to the UK that they consistently get chatty with me and I get held at the desk more than a minute. Yet the UK is also the only entry spot where I've *not* noticed a passport reader.
The fun when I return to Sweden never changes, though - always searching for my residence permit and then 'the look' because my hair is so different now from the photo on the permit. Never mind that my current style is quite similar to the original passport photo, they stare at the one on the permit.
So whatever they are seeing, most of what I get is 'welcome home' or 'welcome back'.
