I wasn't expecting them to roll out the welcoming committee, but I did expect a "yes, we've upgraded you to blah", or "yes, welcome to the IC Atlanta, if there is anything out of order feel free to call us and we will straighten it out". Even at Hilton's I always get a welcome letter from the manager and half the time I get a call 30 minutes after check in from the manager to ensure that everything is to my satisfaction. I simply got a "here's your room key, the elevators are to the right". I guess maybe I didn't complain enough, it just seemed every time I brought Ambassador they seemed to say, "Yes, we understand you are Ambassador.....is there anything else?". I guess I expected them to simply have things covered a bit better, being a smaller program, with less hotels and more importantly projecting themselves as a more luxury, service oriented hotel.
I'll give them another try in the next couple of weeks. Maybe I'll stay at one of the ICs in Dubai. That will be the real test, the Hilton's there have always upgraded me to brilliant executive suites there for extremely cheap prices.
Thanks for your input.
If the receptionist does not explicitly state that I have been upgraded, I would have no hesitation in asking if I have been upgraded.
I did this in the Hilton Addis Ababa a few nights ago, and ended up getting a large junior suite on the Executive floor rather than a standard room without club access. And all because I stated that as a Diamond, I expected xyz.
A phone call was made, and my room was changed without further comment or discussion.
As a RA - and indeed as a SGP Platinum, I very regularly get a suite, and almost 90% of the time, receive a gift in my room.
