Bumping Gets To Be a Problem For United
United's spokesman Joe Hopkins acknowledged the problem, saying United has been bumping numerous European-bound passengers at Dulles and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Hopkins said the problem was the result of the airline's age-old formula for overbooking -- which may now be outdated. United, as well as most of the other major airlines, traditionally overbook their flights by a certain percentage to account for a projected number of no-shows based on previous flights.
