Luck of the draw~
I am sorry you had to deal with unpleasant immigration officers. From my experience, I think ALL immigration officials in ALL countries attend the same "be rude to visitors" academy. They all treat you like a terrorist and they have been many occassions where I would say "Thank you and have a nice day!" they would respond by giving me nasty looks.
I don't know if they are trying to be intimidating or are sitting on thorns or have nasty hemmorhoids, but it sure sucks when you enter a country and the first contact you have is someone who treat you like crap.
Just pray to God you get someone nice and you land when there are million people standing in line. They are usually not as picky when there are tons of people waiting to get through.

You think there is uniformity with these employees? As much as say.....officers of the NYPD.
In most cases, there is a "traffic control" person who sends you to different windows. You don't get to pick and choose who you want to go to. I guess they don't want anything funny going around. You know, between visitors and immigration officials (read "corruption").
Safe travels!
