Actually, I do indeed remember when flying was a gourmet experience.

I clearly remember flying from the U.S. (JFK) to Europe (various cities) and return on Pan American Airways and Trans World Airlines in the late '60's and throughout the '70's. On every flight we were presented with an embossed menu. Yes: an embossed menu suitable for saving. This, in economy class!

Although the meals were invariably a choice between beef, chicken, or fish, there was occasionally a pasta dish. Moreover, breakfast was always a hot omelet if desired.

It seems that the meals of yesteryear in economy class are now the meals of today's business class.

Fools that we mortals be ... we thought the Golden Age would go on forever ...
