Thanks TIMP (or the number 1 Tassie guide) for the very full and helpful advice. I appreciate it. Looks like we have Hobart all set as the Peppermint bay trip (weather permitting) sounds ideal as does touring round the Huon valley. Would it be better for us to spend 3 nights in Hobart and spend a night in the Huon Valley before moving north rather than spending the 4 nights in Hobart? I have heard about Matilda's of Ranelegh. One reason just to base ourselves in Hobart is it allows us to be more flexible depending on weather. I think we will stay at Battery point b&b. If it is to much of a hill climb then we can use taxis. Going back to Huon how possible would Tahune air walk be for someone with slight mobility difficulties?
On Par Avion I chose south west as we will be going on to east coast next anyway and I thought it would allow us a different perspective particularly combining with Bathurst boat trip which I thought might be similar to Gordon River trip at Strahan?. (Having been in touch with Par Avion I know the trip will be OK for my mum to go on).
On eating my mum loves her fish so any fish restaurant recommendations welcome? I have read or heard about Mures and Fish Frenzy. Any other non fish good restaurants which locals go to also welcome? Pricewise we mix more expensive night with cheaper night so we can try all types.
I think we will stick with Freycinet but miss out Port Arthur on your recommendation which means we can spend a bit more time somewhere else on the way there from Huon or Hobart. I have read Richmond is nice?
In Bicheno there is the penguin tour and we can just drive up and down the coast depending on weather.
On 2 nights in Cradle Mountain if it takes 4 hours from Bicheno I guess we can take the journey reasonably leisurely and stop somewhere on the way. If we wanted we could drive the 2 hours to Strahan the second day if we wanted to do the boat trip you suggested (but perhaps a drive too far although I enjoy driving and stopping at places along the way) otherwise intend just to relax and do some level walking or driving about.
On the day we leave for the airport at Launceston (flight is 5.30pm) would we have time to go somewhere in Tamar Valley for lunch or is that too far out the way?
Thanks again
