Actually, shockingly, for the first time ever, Kiwi Flyer is wrong (I'm not being facetious here - I've never, ever seen him to be wrong about anything on this thread or any other Aus/NZ one). There is a mailbox in the SYD international area by the duty free shops. It's hidden back around a post next to where you can pick up your duty free purchases. I mailed some letters from there as we were leaving Australia for the US.
