I'm about to get hit with the annual fee in a few days. Is it better to call now (pre-emptively) or wait til' it hits the account? I've booked a month-long trip to Southern Africa on the card so all of the reservations are tied to it.. meaning I can't cancel the card! Any advice on how to avoid the $79.00 charge? If your itinerary is ticketed and you're not planning on cancelling/charging back your itineraries, you can probably still cancel the card. Your card doesn't have to be active in order for you to fly.
