And not all paper upgrade certificates would have expired had they been dated.

I have a one segment confirmed upgrade expiring 8/31. Actually, I had a pair but I used the other last month without difficulty.

There are still plenty of paper upgrade certificates out there -- SWUs are paper, the 1000 mile upgrades that come with new MP Visa as paper, etc.
