It's simple.
1. You have just spent 10 years building up a FF account.
2. The airline has the right to change the program's rules at any time.
3. If they give you the award you saved for, they lose revenue.
4. If they change the rules to make the award revenue-neutral or even positive, they win.
5. They are holding onto your miles, and you have no recourse.
