Wasn't there a 1950's film called "salami" or "baloney" where the sausage is seized by customs and the lady spends the night at the customs area where they finally eat the sausage and fall in love?
First, I would have to say that any can of corn that I have ever seen is packed in some sort of liquid.

Second, no prohibited item is ever "seized", "confiscated", or otherwise taken from it's owner unless a LEO is called and removes illegal contraband (drugs, guns...)

Each time a prohibited item is found the passenger has the opportunity to exit the checkpoint and return to public area to do with the item as they wish. Examples include: discarding, placing in checked luggage (if permissible), shipping to oneself, giving to a friend who is not entering the checkpoint, or putting in your car if parked at the airport. This list is endless. Basically, just don't bring it back through security.
