Of course, (i) would be poor form anyway, although I have done it from time to time. But (ii) seems bizarre -- if you're traveling with your wife but you are the RA, then your drink is complimentary but hers isn't???
Ha! To (ii), I'd say "PROVE IT". As long as I leave the empties behind in the trash and am willing to admit, true or not, to being a lush, there's no way way I'd walk off paying for the mini-bar NOT "consumed by the member". I've never been challenged at check out on this point and would most assuredly hold firm if I were.
In fact, I've talked my way out of a mini-bar charge on a points stay. I really did do this in good faith; I just didn't realize there was a difference in the T&Cs for points stays. Ooops.

Still, executive room is problematic as well eg at the Mark Hopkins where it's been reported that they consider a room with a fax machine to be an executive room.

This is a more system-wide problem, in my opinion. The Willard in DC, while overall an outstanding hotel, does skimp by calling their "Willard Room" an executive room. In reality it's an oversized king, and is quite distinct, in a lesser manner, from the other exec rooms and the suites.
And the single time I stayed at the IC houston, I receive no upgrade at all. This in spite of the fact there were numerous available suites. Apparently this establishment does not consider suites held back for upsell as "available".
I sure do wish IHG would standardize the behavior of its member hotels so RAs could at least know what to expect.
