So let me get this straight

You are saying that for $1,700 over the economy fare they were able to do an upgrade on the spot? Has any one else tried this? Sounds tempting but I would be way to nervous to buy an economy tkt with the hope of getting the same deal at the airport, only to be told that either there are no seats or for you Sam it will be 5K additional

That is more my kind of luck

Do you know how much the economy fare was and is this $1700 one way or round trip?
