I stand corrected...I though that only his wife was charged (she returned several times during the last 17 months)...


Feb. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Thaksin Shinawatra was released on bail by Thailand's Supreme Court after the former premier returned to the country to face corruption charges, state- controlled Thai PBS Channel reported, citing a court statement.

The court asked Thaksin to appear at a hearing on March 12.

The Supreme Court issued arrest warrants for Thaksin and his wife Pojamarn last year after they failed to return to face charges relating to the purchase of land from the central bank.


The authorities in Bangkok took Mr. Thaksin into custody as soon as he arrived and drove him to the Supreme Court, where, Reuters reported, he was freed on about $270,000 bail.

He and his wife, Pojaman, have been charged with corruption and conflict of interest in connection with the purchase of property from a state agency while he was in office. His wife returned to Thailand in January and is free on bail.
