Overseas arrivals, excluding Canada and Mexico, are expected to have reached 23 millions in 2007 by the office of travel industry. It peaked a little under 26 millions in 2000. Keep in mind that global tourism saw a 4% yearly increase over this period (according to wikipedia, but they don't say if it's in visitors or dollars).
I also feel quite strongly that the weakened dollar has got to do with the increase in tourism the last few years. That's the only reason I will still go.
Indeed, the trend of arrivals from Japan and Europe going down was reversed in the Q4 '06, when the dollar started to fare really badly against the yen and the euro. There must be some correlation.
Maybe I overstay and get a job as a day laborer. That's more likely what DHS thinks I'm up to. That's why buy a $1,000 ticket...
