A bit OT but the "taxes".. isn't that included in your ticket price when you book the ticket? And if not and you are leaving the country flat broke how would they make you pay?

It is included in the ticket unless you upgrade at the airport on the day of flight.
However, many, many countries in the world require a cash payment departure tax which is paid at the airport typically at a different counter than the check in counter. No cash, no departure.
