I think I'm the same way. I usually carry a little cash on me, and a couple of my friends who are in the occasional tough spot know this. They ask me for $20 here or there, and I usually just hand them most or all of what I have in my money clip.
I'm sure there've been one or two instances where I haven't been paid back, but the total loss over several years would only be around $50. Like the FTer I quoted above, if I forget, and you don't remind me, I guess you don't owe me anymore.
