I can confirm that Alitalia lounges do close for the night...had my share of visiting MXP and FCO at ungodly hours...But luckily I don't need a Schengen visa. I am not sure about whether the airport shuts down completely for a few hours- do call AZ asking about it because otherwise you may find yourself in trouble. Sleepinginairports has no concise info on whether airside remains open, so I wouldn't rely on it.
