What would be your hotel recommendations in this area?

We would like to find (preferrably) an old mansion with charm and modern equipment (4 or 5 star range), but reading some comments about hotels in those areas, I have seen "horror stories" about tiny rooms, filthy baths, noisy environment, etc...

We are taking my in-laws along (71 and 76 year old), so I would like to find nice places.

Many thanks in advance for your feedback.
Well in Siracusa my first question would be, how much do you want to spend? In Italy the hotel stars do not equal price so there are some varied options.

Also in Siracusa do you want on the Island of Ortygia or is in the "mainland" okay. There are several mainland hotels near the Greek and Roman theatres.

Ciao,
FH
