If you want to upgrade the whole way, it will cost you at least 2 SWUs each way (per person), and you'd have to limit yourself to UA and LH. Your best bet would be to fly UA as far as possible (probably FRA or MUC) and fly Coach the rest of the way. That way, you'd only need one SWU per person in each direction.
